Amazing collection of Harvard University student Gardner Whitney Lawrence of Concord MA.

A member of the Class of 1864, who sadly passed away in 1869 at the age of 26.

Records indicate he died of "consumption."

Lawrence did become an attorney and marry Miss Mary Ryder in 1868.

There are many personal school papers from his classes at Harvard.

Handwritten notes, homework, class curriculum, etc. All items listed individually below.

Gardner Whitney Lawrence lived his life in Concord MA, the son of Joshua + Sarah Lawrence.

All items are in VG condition.

I have also uploaded some research items below. These are NOT included with the sale of the collection,

but the buyer is welcome to print them.

1. Pamphlet "To The Members of the Class of Sixty-Four" - three page directions for each student to write

his autobiography with family history for inclusion in the school library archives.

2. One page sheet of class list and description - folds and some separation at folds

3. 1862 original note and envelope for "Mr. Lawrence" request to come to the President's office. Signed by Acting President Andrew Preston Peabody (A.P. Peabody).

4. Harvard College four page "Laws Relating to the Library" - February 1860

5. Fourteen page personal school mathematics notebook of Gardner Whitney Lawrence (signed G.W. Lawrence on cover) - filled with math notes - last page has a tear,

6. Oct 1862 "Performances of Exhibition" program - All students were required to perform a dissertation or oration. Gardner Whitney performed a four minute presentation of "The Enduring Beauties of Jean Jacques Rousseau."

7. The original assignment paper signed by A.G. Peabody for the presentation of #6 above.

8. A second performance program in Oct 1863. Lawrence performed a dissertation "The London Times Newspaper"

9. The original assignment paper signed by A.G. Peabody for the eight minute performance above #8.

10. Original 8 page presentation of Lawrence for above #8. In his own hand with correction notes, etc.

11. Sixteen pages of various handwritten papers by Lawrence including essays, assignments, notes, etc.

12. Approx 15 pages of pre-printed class material for various subjects. Botany, Iliad, Latin, Horace/Cicero, Greek, etc

13. Five pages of pre-printed in class or homework with handwritten notes by Lawrence. One of these has a personal note signed "Yours truly, Gardner Lawrence, Concord Mass."
