Original large cabinet photo of the new "Redfield School" building just completed on Elizabeth Street in Pittsfield MA.
The school was dedicated in 1897 (see news below).
A very clear image showing two sides of the building. There is a well dressed bearded man posing at the corner,
and interestingly he is holding a hammer in his right hand. We are assuming this is someone important to the town or construction.
Perhaps a proud school board member or politician.
This fine photo was the work of the well known local photographer S.S. Wheeler of Pittsfield.
The photo is in EX condition. The heavy stock mount shows corner wear and the bottom left is missing.
There is also a crack on the right border. None of these issues detract from this fine historic image.
The reverse has various photographer notes such as "school building #2" and a pen note in the bottom right simply "Redfield."
As for the flagpole, it appears the photographer made an attempt to fill in or colorize the flag, perhaps for insertion in a newspaper or magazine of the day,
or simply to make reprints in the future.
Measuring 14 x 11, including the mount.
Please note: This building still stands at 48 Elizabeth Street, Pittsfield MA. Review current images of the building below.
Absolutely NO returns on original photographs and documents.
