Original brass ID tag identified to Captain James Anderson Nichols of Petersburg Virginia.
Nichols was a member of the Third Regiment Volunteers, Company G,
and the former leader of the Petersburg Grays, a National Guard unit.
He was also a well known civil engineer from a very prominent family.
The tag is approx 1-3/4" diameter and in good condition, showing expected average handling.
