An original 1862 package receipt from the United States Express Company.  The details reveal

the package was left by "Miss Sisson" of Penn Yan NY on Dec 6, 1862 and intended for "Luther Sisson", a member of the

148th NY Infantry Co I, currently camped at Norfolk VA.

In addition, the package will be delivered in care of "Capt Hicks" and clearly marked "clogs" and what appears to read "Paid thru."

Our research indicates the package was most likely left by Luther's oldest sister Ruth Sisson.

The Sisson's were long time residents of Yates County NY, principally, Penn Yan and Jerusalem NY.

Luther Sisson appears to have moved to Ganges MI around 1900 and passed there in 1923.

The receipt is 8.25 x 5 and in VG condition with natural folds.

Please review some Civil War research below pertaining to Luther Sisson and Captain Martin S. Hicks.

These items are not included with the sale of the express receipt.

This item was acquired as part of a small collection pertaining to the Sisson/McCarrick family of Penn Yan NY.
